We Can Be Better Than This...
9 of the 10 Portage County road fatalities in 2010 were determined by the coroner to be caused by alcohol. This is a sad and troubling statistic and is the highest in many years. The Coalition will continue to focus on drunk driving. We know from talking to Portage County's OWI Assessor, that the majority of people he sees who have been arrested for drunk driving don't have any idea how to gauge when they have reached a .08 blood alcohol level - they get in their car believing they are just fine and "are just going home...".

The Coalition recognizes the serious issue of prescription drug abuse and works to educate community members and to ensure safe disposal of unneeded medications through twice yearly county-wide "Prescription Drug Take Back Events."
